The NWAA 2016 Annual Conference takes part on Thursday, May 12th at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Blackburn and promises to be an event which you cannot afford to miss.

The theme for the third annual NWAA conference is “Implementing the Strategic Vision for UK Aerospace”. How are the strategies of the UK’s Aerospace Growth Partnership evolving? How will the global aerospace market change in 2016? What can we expect from the UK and Global economies? How will the European Referendum impact the industry in 2016? How can the supply chain, and SMEs in particular, influence strategic direction? What support does the supply chain need to compete globally? How can we work together better in the North West of England?

A full line-up of prestigious keynote speakers will present their expert views – complemented with ideas from our sponsors and supported by key findings from NWAA supply chain workshops.

Our first two speakers will provide us with insight into the global aerospace market along with the economic and political environment.

Clive Lewis, Partner, Achieving the Difference LLP:

Global Aerospace Market Forecast 2016

Clive will explore some of the global aerospace industry market forecasts, building a composite picture of the major OEM’s own forecasts. Clive will identify the growth programmes and the new business development opportunities in Civil Aerospace, Defence and Maintenance, Overhaul and Repair Sectors. In 2015 the dataset included enhancements to information on aircraft development timescales and also identified Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers to the major aircraft programmes.

This will be an opportunity for all attendees to get a copy of the 2016 report.

Jeegar Kakkad, Chief Economist & Director of Policy, ADS:

UK & Global Economy – Keynote Speaker

At one of the UK’s most critical political moments, with a referendum on the UK’s position within Europe less than 2 months away, Jeegar will give the UK Aerospace Industry view. Jeegar will present on the current status of the UK and Global Economies and provide the attendees with insight into what the bigger picture might mean to all companies in the supply chain.

Manufacturing – Keynote Speaker

Nick has the position and opportunity to meet with the Captains of UK Industry and to gain a deep understanding of their views. Nick is well placed to provide a thought provoking presentation into the future of manufacturing in the UK. Nick can provide the view of The Manufacturers and also some government insight. For example, is Britain still going to be carried aloft by the March of the Makers as George Osborne predicted in 2011? What difference can the Northern Powerhouse make to manufacturing in the North of England.

Colin Turner, Strategic Sourcing Manager, FINMECCANICA Helicopter Division:

Technology – Keynote Speaker

As a Director of the West of England Aerospace Forum (WEAF) and a member of the Aerospace Growth Partnership Supply Chain Working Group, Colin is well placed to discuss the future challenges for companies in the Supply Chain. Colin is also the key manager for FINMECCANICA in the national supply chain programme SC21. Colin will describe the opportunities for UK aerospace companies to engage in new technology programmes and how this can lead to future business opportunities.

Andy Moran, Head of Supplier Development, AIRBUS UK:

Andy Moran heads up AIRBUS supplier development team and is charged with helping UK aerospace suppliers at all tiers develop their capability and meet global competitiveness targets. Andy will present on AIRBUS thinking on the pressures for change (rate increases, cost reduction targets, quality and delivery performance) and how Airbus plans to work with suppliers at all tiers of the UK aerospace supply chain to ensure they are ready to meet the customer requirements of  the global markets.

Dr Michele Lawty-Jones, Director, Lancashire Skills Hub, Lancashire Enterprise Partnership:

Skills – Keynote Speaker

The Lancashire Skills & Employment Hub is the engine behind the Lancashire Skills and Employment Board and has been busy researching Lancashire’s priorities. Michele will present on the priorities for the county and the Skills and Employment Strategic Framework. Michele will show how the Skills Hub is working with the Lancashire LEP, Lancashire businesses and stakeholders to build a skilled labour market, improve economic well-being and stimulate economic growth across the county.

And finally; throughout the day, I will will reveal the findings of NWAA’s own supply chain workshops and the feedback that over 50 companies from the Aerospace Supply Chain have contributed. NWAA has run 5 workshops with aerospace companies over the last 9 months to understand better the supply chain’s strategic vision for the UK’s Aerospace Industry. I will present for the first time how the material developed during the workshops has been used to develop key aims and objectives that NWAA will now take forwards on behalf of the supply chain. As a member of the Board of the Aerospace Growth Partnership, I am uniquely placed to try to influence the UK Aerospace Strategy following the Conference.
