NATEP Showcase & Networking 2019
Date: Tuesday 15 October 2019
Venue: Engineering Innovation Centre, UCLAN, Preston
The Showcase will celebrate successes achieved to date from SME organisations within the NATEP programme and provide a forum for companies working on NATEP projects to present their ideas and network with potential customers and aerospace industry stakeholders.
The event will also provide an opportunity for organisations who are looking for future funding to hear how the NATEP programme can support them and the development of their R&D ideas into successful collaborative projects.
The day will include presentations from live NATEP projects as well as Keynote speakers from the Industry. Furthermore, key industry representatives from organisations including Safran, Rolls Royce, Morson Projects, Boeing, Innovate UK and ATI, will be in attendance to see how they, along with NWAA, can support local aerospace companies in the supply chain to develop the ideas and innovations that might support completely new aerospace manufacturing capability in the UK.
To further enhance this, we have invited Stephen Cowan, Senior Vice President Operations for GKN Aerospace and Chair of the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Working Group of the Aerospace Growth Partnership to speak at the NATEP Showcase and lead an interactive session.
Recently, the Aerospace Growth Partnership has performed a significant analysis of the UK’s current and future capabilities called the Strategic Competency Analysis (SCA). Part of Stephen’s remit is to develop some of the most strategically important work-packages to the UK’s Aerospace Industry identified in the SCA. For example, these work-packages include;
- LE & TE Movables Structures led by GE Aviation (Chris Burleigh)
- Integrated Nacelles / Pylon / Engine / Wing Structures led by Safran (Adrian Banks)
- Composite major wing structures led by Spirit Aerosystems (John Hunter / Chris Hughes)
- Advanced Systems (Electrical machines, electrical controls, mechanical assembly) led by UTC (Suzanne Efstathiou/ Andy Baker)
These work-packages are in varying degrees of maturity and could represent a significant step forwards in UK Aerospace capability. Stephen will describe how the Aerospace Growth Partnership is looking to engage the UK supply chain and how NATEP might be a potential opportunity to develop elements of the technology required to deliver these major work-packages.
NWAA believes this is a fantastic opportunity to start to align technologies developed in the supply chain through programmes such as NATEP with the key areas where UK Primes and Tier 1’s believe the UK can retain and win business in the future.
The NATEP Showcase gives organisations an excellent opportunity to understand how companies are already benefitting from NATEP and how the UK’s Primes think the supply chain can contribute to developing capability in new areas of the Aerospace Industry.
