The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), which owns and operates the Sellafield site in Cumbria, has recently announced an increase in the annual budget for the Sellafield site to a staggering £2 billion. The NDA also owns several other UK nuclear sites each benefiting from their own annual budgets which amount to hundreds of millions of pounds more. There’s no doubt that both decommissioning and new nuclear build will bring with it many challenges; this will create a need for diversity of expertise and materials science.
