A new initiative to promote Lancashire as the UK’s number one aerospace cluster was launched at the Farnborough International Airshow this month when the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Lancashire County Council (LCC) joined together as ‘Aerospace Lancashire’.
Part of a North West aerospace presence at Farnborough, facilitated by the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) trade association, Aerospace Lancashire is the county’s largest ever presence at an international airshow and has been championing the region’s collective aerospace strength.
Aerospace Lancashire has also been highlighting how Lancashire is gearing up for the next generation of hi-tech aircraft manufacture, and how the county is already well positioned to take advantage of a rising global demand for civil and military planes over the next two decades. This includes a substantial ramp-up for bigger new and replacement passenger jets, largely and the continued success of BAE Systems, which is currently manufacturing the rear fuselage for the $1 trillion F-35 Lightning II fighter.
Helping Aerospace Lancashire make the case for aerospace investment at Farnborough has been property agents Colliers International - recently appointed to market the Samlesbury Enterprise Zone site - together with a wide range of Lancashire-based companies who are directly involved in the aerospace supply chain.
