Burnley College’s popular Science and Technology Festival announces online Takeover – to a global audience!
Let Burnley College take over your day virtually with a Science Takeover packed with science and technology-based fun and activities for all the family on Friday, 26 June, from 10am to 3pm.
A key annual event in the calendar for families across the North West, Burnley College’s Science and Technology Festival is back with a difference this year! Join in and learn about the amazing universe of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – from your own living room!
Now in its fifth year, Burnley College won’t let Covid-19 put a halt to activities and has announced it is going online with a Science Takeover to be remembered.
Karen Buchanan, Principal of Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, said:
“We are committed to putting on many of the exciting, engaging activities our visitors have grown to expect from this popular annual event which showcases the wonders of the world of science and technology and never fails to amaze people. Only this year, because we’re going online, we’re expecting visitors from all across the world, as well as those in our local communities and who travel from across the North West to enjoy the event each year.
“Whether you’re in the classroom, or still home-schooling, we’re hosting a wide range of experiments, challenges and activities using everyday materials for everyone to get involved in – and discover their inner scientist, computer genius, engineer or mathematician!”
Just some of the innovative and exciting activities online include:
- Try Fingerprinting at home
- Create and launch your own Hot Air Balloon
- Make a Hovercraft from a CD
- Study Neurons by making them at home
- Build your own Sprout House
- Create a Gyroscope.
Karen Buchanan added:
“Everyone is invited to drop in and sample our busy schedule of live and pre-recorded activities throughout the Science Takeover day. Let our outstanding Tutors take care of educating – and entertaining – your family for the day. And don’t forget to share your photos and videos on our official social media channels, too!”
