Hardide Coatings, the Oxfordshire-based advanced surface technology company, has doubled the size of its UK site with a move to a 20,000 sq. ft. custom-fitted new manufacturing facility in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
The relocation will expand the company’s operation and production capacity in the UK as part of an investment programme that includes three new coating reactors, and upgrading and replacing process equipment at the company’s UK and USA sites.
Hardide Coatings develops, manufactures and applies patented advanced tungsten carbide/tungsten metal matrix composite coatings to a wide range of engineering components for industries including aerospace, oil and gas, flow control and precision engineering. Aerospace customers include Airbus, BAE Systems, Leonardo Helicopters, Lockheed Martin and Triumph Group.
By the end of 2020, the company will have five coating reactors in the UK and four in the USA. One of the UK’s new reactors will be capable of taking product of larger dimensions - up to 1.5m in length from the current 1m.
Philip Kirkham, CEO of Hardide plc commented: “Our new building has an improved layout which creates operational efficiencies and improved environmental performance. Together with the additional reactors and upgraded process equipment, our capability and capacity will be significantly enhanced.”
Hardide nanostructured tungsten/tungsten carbide metal matrix composite coatings are applied by low temperature chemical vapour deposition (CVD). They can coat internal and external surfaces as well as complex geometries and can be applied to a wide range of metallic substrates including ferrous and nickel-based alloys, and most grades of stainless and carbon steels.
The company has manufacturing facilities in Oxfordshire, UK and Virginia, USA.
