European, UK and regional grants
European, national and regional funding is available to finance R&D activity.
- Some applications are made direct.
- Others are more complex and involve formation of a consortium and submission of a proposal in the light of open calls. The NWAA can assist you in submitting your project.
Feedback and administration vary from one source of funding to another.

R&D Grant for SMEs (<250 employees and turnover < 40m euros)
Aim : to help introduce innovative products and processes that have a solid commercial potential. Grant towards research trials and product testing.
Amount : £20,000 to £500,000.For larger grants, projects must involve a significant technological advance.

Innovation Vouchers
Aim : to encourage businesses, charities and social enterprises to tap into the wealth of knowledge from Further Education and Higher Education Institutions and resolve a business , quickly, efficiently and through a source not previously utilised.
Amount : up to £3,000
Applications accepted online through a series of rounds:

The NWDA has published a new business support document, providing a quick and easy listing guide to business support initiatives - including finance - available to help businesses in the North West during this economic downturn and beyond. NWDA support can be accessed through Business Link Northwest which provides high quality, impartial business information and advice to businesses across the region. Business Link is the gateway to all public and private business support in the region. The NWAA works with the major regional stakeholders among which Business Organisations like Business Link.

ERDF
The Northwest ERDF Programme 2007-13, known as the Northwest Operational Programme (NWOP) and administered by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), has a single set of objectives that supports the EU ‘Growth and Jobs’ agenda and is aligned to the Northwest Regional Economic Strategy.
The NWOP has 4 Priorities and 11 Action Areas, and aims to create 26,700 net additional jobs, improve the region’s annual Gross Value Added (GVA) by £1.17 billion, and ensure a 25% reduction in additional CO2 emissions generated from Programme investments.

The NWAA is working closely with the NWDA and other key regional stakeholders. Supply chain development activities have already been funded through ERDF.
