Does Modern Automation Work for Low-Volume, High-Mix Aerospace Production? See for yourself this November.

LC Automation’s “Automating The Aerospace Supply Chain: The Directors Cut” brings advice, skills and investment experts together with live robot demonstrations at AMRC North West on 25 November 2026.

Aerospace and advanced manufacturing leaders in the North West are invited to find out how today’s automation can fill the gaps that growing aircraft demand is exposing in the supply chain. The half-day event, hosted by LC Automation and supported by the North West Aerospace Alliance, Made Smarter and Make UK, will show that automation is no longer reserved for high-volume production lines: it can now deliver real results in low-volume, high-mix environments.

Demand for new aircraft is creating opportunities for the aerospace supply chain, but it is also raising difficult questions. How do you meet growing demand and maintain product quality? Is there spare capacity to increase production easily? Can you recruit the people you need to scale your business?

For many manufacturers the honest answer to those questions is “not yet”, and the event will explore whether automation can help close those gaps.

A long-held assumption is that robots are only suitable for long production runs, but the Directors Cut event is designed to challenge that. Today’s robot and automation technology is more flexible, quicker to set up and easier to redeploy than previous generations, making it a practical option for the short runs, frequent changeovers and wide part variety typical of aerospace manufacturing. Attendees will see how automation can eliminate bottlenecks and improve efficiency, even in low-volume, high-mix production.

Practical advice, then live demonstrations

This is not an average business event. The organisers have kept jargon to a minimum and built the morning around use cases that demonstrate real-world results. Expert speakers will cover the advice, funding, investment and skills that can help companies get started, followed by demonstrations of the robot solutions that can help them reach their goals.

The programme includes:

  • Advice, grants and support from Will Kinghorn of Made Smarter
  • Knowledge and skills from Martin Blunt of the University of Lancashire
  • Investing in the aerospace industry from Sue Barnard of the British Business Bank
  • A real-world robotic case study from Jewel George of Mitsubishi Electric
  • “How Safe is Your Robot?” from Martin Kidman Ph.D of SICK UK
  • A panel discussion with Q&A, hosted by Paul Bell of the NWAA
  • Robot demonstrations and a networking lunch

The live demonstrations will feature technology from automation partners including Universal Robots, Mitsubishi Electric, SICK, IAI and Omron.
