Kieran Mazs Interview – Franchisee
Green Shield Group recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Kieran, one of the newest additions to
our growing networking of franchisees.
In an open and insightful conversation – Kieran shared his story of his journey into franchising with Green
Shield Group – from what initially drew him to the opportunity, to the steps he took to become part of
the team, and how the experience has been so far.
Kieran offered a unique perspective on what it means to join a purpose-driven brand like Green Shield
Group and spoke about the support he received during his onboarding, the training process, and how it’s
felt stepping into the role of franchisee in an exciting and fast-growing industry.
What initially attracted you to Green Shield Group as a franchise opportunity?
I was drawn to Green Shield Group because it offered a chance to work within a progressive and
fast-growing industry, one that aligns with future-focused innovation. I was also confident that I would
be selling quality solutions, which made the prospect of representing the brand appealing and credible. I
also wanted the opportunity to help clients make sustainable choices and have a genuinely positive
impact. It felt like a business opportunity with a purpose.
Were you involved in a similar industry before joining? Can you tell us a bit more about this.
Yes, prior to joining Green Shield Group, I worked for a powered access company, initially in an
engineering role before moving into sales. This experience gave me a solid foundation in both technical
understanding and client-facing work.
What drew me to Green Shield Group was the opportunity to build on that sales experience within an
established and respected business in the renewable energy sector. It felt like a natural next step,
offering not only professional growth but also the chance to make a real difference.
What was the onboarding process like when you joined?
The onboarding process was very smooth and the team was very welcoming. From day one, I was made
to feel like a valued part of the team, which made the transition into the role really positive. I was
provided with a wealth of learning materials and company insights that helped me quickly get up to
speed and understand both the business and the wider industry. It was clear from the start that Green
Shield Group invests in setting its franchisees up for success.
Have you faced any challenges since joining and how did you overcome these?
As someone new to both the industry and the company, I initially found some of the terminology
challenging to understand. To overcome this, I proactively reached out to the right people at Green
Shield Group for guidance and support. Their willingness to help ensured I quickly gained the knowledge
I needed and felt confidence in my role.
What projects have you worked on so far?
So far, I have had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across various sectors. These
include engineering colleges, food production plants, shower manufacturers, and gyms. This variety has
allowed me to gain valuable experience working with different types of clients and in different
environments.
How would you describe the ongoing support from Green Shield Group so far?
The support I’ve received from Green Shield Group has been excellent. Whether it’s the team at the
Scottish franchise or everyone at the Preston HQ, including the directors who are always willing to join
meetings when I need guidance, the level of assistance is impressive. Most of my day-to-day support
comes from Simon, the Strategic Business Manager, who is available to point me in the right direction –
I’m sure I’ve tested his patience a few times!
How well do Green Shield Group’s values align with your business values?
When I decided to pursue a career in sales, it was important to me that I represented a brand and
solutions I truly believed in – and Green Shield Group met that standard. Additionally, there is a genuine
emphasis on trust and honesty in how we advise clients, which aligns perfectly with my own approach
and personality. This shared commitment to integrity makes working with Green Shield Group a natural
fit.
What advice would you give to someone considering a Green Shield franchise?
I’d say, definitely go for it. You’re joining at the perfect time, with the industry growing and the company
well-established. It’s a very rewarding role that offers both personal and professional benefits.
What’s next for your GSG franchise? Anything in the pipeline you’re working on?
At the moment, I’m in the early stages of projects with a school and a recycling plant, which I’m really
excited about. My goal is to consistently deliver large-scale projects across Scotland and continuously
learn and grow to ensure the best outcomes for my clients
