Level 3 Surface Finisher Apprenticeship – Aerospace & Defence Pathway

Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) is introducing a new apprenticeship designed to develop specialist skills within the aerospace and defence sector, starting February 2026

About the role
Surface Finishers play a critical part in ensuring components meet strict quality and safety standards. This includes preparing, treating, and finishing to include paint spraying metals and composites, and applying protective coatings to withstand corrosion, heat, and environmental conditions.

Programme structure

  • Block Release Delivery – Apprentices attend college for one full week every six weeks, supporting focused learning while maintaining workplace productivity.
  • Accommodation Options – Halls of residence may be available for those needing to stay locally (subject to dates).
  • Specialist Skills Development – Apprentices gain knowledge and practical skills aligned with aerospace and defence requirements.

B&FC is currently the only college in the North West offering this apprenticeship with a block release model.
