Burnley College and Edge Hill University launch new partnership

Edge Hill University has partnered with Burnley College to deliver their Faculty of Education MA Education degree programme, expanding opportunities for the community to study in their local area.

This new course will be part of a wider degree offer provided by the college allowing the community to benefit from a university education without having to leave Burnley. This reflects the changing priorities of students who want to study degrees in their local area.

The new Masters degree course is validated and delivered by Edge Hill University and influenced by its sector-leading academic research and teaching.

Dr Helen O’Keeffe, Associate Dean of Edge Hill’s Faculty of Education, said:

“Edge Hill is one of the largest providers of teacher training in the country and is at the forefront of developing the next generation of teaching professionals.

“We are proud to be offering this program in the heart of Burnley and delighted to be partnering with Burnley College. This partnership opens up new opportunities for the local community. It is ideal for those with an interest in education or currently working as a teacher but who may not want to or travel long distances for their postgraduate experience.”

Burnley College and Edge Hill University Faculty of Education share a similar vision and values, including widening access to education and a shared commitment to social justice in their teaching practice.

The Principal of Burnley College, Karen Buchanan, said:

“We’re proud to be working with Edge Hill University to provide this prestigious Masters qualification here in Burnley.

“Teaching excellence is at the very heart of our success here at Burnley College, so it is fitting that we are able to offer this prestigious qualification at BCUC, supporting the next generation of teachers and further empowering existing teachers.

“This is the start of something special here at Burnley and we look forward to working closely with our partners at Edge Hill University in the years to come.”
